CAD to CMM

PAS-CMM automates CMM programming and provides a controlled environment that ensures the integrity and completeness of the QA process.

Design data (model & drawing) is converted to the PAS inspection model, and used for the automatic creation of a DMIS program.

PAS-CMM can be used efficiently by non expert users and helps to realize significant time savings (50%-95%) when compared to conventional CMM programming.

Conventional Programming

The CMM control programs (Camio-Studio, MCOSMOS, PC_DMIS, ….) provide specific environments for CMM programming.

These control programs vary in their functional capabilities and performance, but they are all  based on manual programming and requires the following:

  • Set an ID number for each QA requirement (Annotation)
  • Identify and select the features that have to be inspected for each dimension.
  • Decide how each feature should be inspected and set the appropriate parameters (probe, point count, mode, report option….)
  • Control the inspection path (efficient sequence, collision avoidance….)

This is a time consuming process, requires a high level of expertise, is error prone and compromises the integrity and the completeness of the process as it depends on manual reentry and interpretation of the design data.

PAS-CMM Solution


PAS-CMM provides an efficient and highly automated link between the CAD domain (3D model and drawing) and the Inspection environment as follows:

  • Design data - model and drawing are extracted and converted to the PAS inspection model
  • 2D annotations are linked to the relevant design features and the inspection parameters are set automatically according to the specified tolerances.
  • An inspection program (DMIS) is created automatically from the PAS inspection model
  • A report viewer provides a graphic display of inspection results.
